Ashlar Lodge, No.3 has a long and honourable history in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

Ashlar Lodge, No.3, A.F. & A.M. was formed in 1873 through the amalgamation of two Masonic Lodges, Nanaimo Lodge, No.3 and Caledonia Lodge, No. 6, in Nanaimo, B.C.

Nanaimo Lodge, No.3 and Caledonia Lodge, No.6 were both formed in Nanaimo in 1867.  Their original designations were Nanaimo Lodge, No. 1090 (Grand Lodge of England) and  Caledonia Lodge, No. 478 (Grand Lodge of Scotland)

Ashlar Lodge, No. 3 has been active in Nanaimo since its formation in 1873. Many members of Ashlar Lodge, No.3 have played leading roles in Nanaimo history. We will be documenting this history online as we develop this website further.

Out Ashlar Masonic Temple at 101 Commercial Street is a landmark building in downtown Nanaimo. It was built in 1923 on the site of a previous Masonic Temple building that had been built in 1873. The Ashlar Masonic Temple is on the Canadian Historic Places Register and the Nanaimo Heritage Building Registry.

  1. Thank you, Worshipful Master and Brethren, for your warm welcome to Lodge. I was, too, much impressed by the precision of your “work”. Please forgive me for leaving before the Festive Board — I’d had a tough drive from Sayward in the rain, the night before, and I played out.
