Buildings Associated With Ashlar Lodge No. 3 Members

522 Hecate Street was built circa 1890 for Mark Bate, a long serving Mayor of Nanaimo.

The adjacent property to the west at 528 Hecate Street was built at about the same time for James Miller Brown. 522 Hecate Street and 528 Hecate Street appear to have been built to the same plans and design.

Unfortunately both houses have been subjected to renovations with have taken away their original character and have also been allowed to deteriorate.
