As part of our series about Music and Masons, featuring musicians who were/are Freemasons, here is a page about W.C. Handy.

W.C. Handy’s primary contribution to American music was to publish blues and make it a mainstream musical form.

We will be updating this page in the near future but here is something to start with.

Here is the movie St. Louis Blues, starring Nat “King” Cole (who was also a Mason) and featuring the music of W.C. Handy.

This is Bessie Smith’s only appearance on film, performing W.C. Handy’s St. Louis Blues in 1929.
