Richard Bedford (R.B.) Bennett, (1870-1947) Prime Minister of Canada from 1930-35, (and Freemason – a member of Miramichi Lodge, No.187 in New Brunswick and Ashlar Lodge, No.28 in Calgary, Alberta) was largely overlooked by Canadian historians for decades. What references that were made to R.B. Bennett tended to be highly critical and biased commentaries about his economic policies during the Great Depression of the 1930s and his use of the RCMP to deal with the “On To Ottawa Trek in 1935.”

But in the last decade, two worthwhile and objective biographies of R.B. Bennett have been published. We have no problem recommending both of them.

These two recommendations for biographies of R.B. Bennett are Bennett: The Rebel Who Challenged And Changed A Nation by John Boyko and In Search of R.B. Bennett by P.B. Waite.
